Oral History of the Catholic Church
Oral history is an important element of constructing history. Through accounting the personal experiences and life stories by the interviewees, the mass can participate in writing and constructing history, supplementing non-documented information of the existing sources, thus, providing a new understanding of the society and history. In view of this, the Centre initiated an oral history project for the purpose of future research. It covers history of Hong Kong Catholic Diocese, Catholic virgins (HK and Macau), religious congregations and orders, Portugese community, and so on. To facilitate this project, the Centre has organized a series of workshops to introduce the methods and characteristics of oral history, results and experiences of the past projects, and the Hong Kong Catholic Church, for students, Catholics and those who are interested in this project. Interviews with the above-mentioned targets have been conducted. These interviews will be transcripts and saved in archives for future research purpose.
